Villarrica

Villarrica is pleasantly set in an area of great natural beauty, in the heart of La Araucanía, Chile's Ninth Region. Located on the western shore of Lake Villarrica, it is surrounded by volcanos, rivers and National Parks. It is the business centre of the area, a small lively town with a population of approx. 40.000. While remaining a charming Chilean city, Villarrica offers a complete tourist infrastructure with fine restaurants, cafes, bars and good accommodation.

What to see

Villarrica is famous for handicrafts and wooden furniture, numerous markets and shops can be found all over town. From the newly built lookout point "Canela" on the road to Loncoche there are splendid views of the city, lake and volcano. Don't miss the sunset when the volcano turns red, the best view is either from the bridge over the Tolten River or from one of our top-level rooms.

Summer events

Every summer there are some major events, among them the Dias Culturales with classical music, the Mountain Bike Race from Lican Ray to Villarrica (Chile's oldest MTB marathon race), marathons, triathlons, regattas, theatres, Mapuche ceremonies and traditional dances.
